Rents are rising, council house waiting lists are growing, and families are being priced out of our communities because they can’t get on the property ladder. Average wages don’t come close to the amount needed to get a mortgage and our young people can’t save because all their money goes towards paying the rent. As a consequence young adults are being forced to move miles away from their communities just to be able to afford a roof over their heads.
Immediate action is needed to tackle the housing crisis that is scarring our area.
I will make the case for Labour’s promised council homes to be built in this constituency, campaign for controls on rents, and fight for measures to deal with rogue landlords.
