Welfare

The cuts to welfare payments have devastated communities and I have seen the cruelty of Iain Duncan Smith’s policies first hand.

Before she died, my mother was re-interviewed for benefits even though she had heart failure.

I will be a firm voice of opposition to the Tories' welfare policies, exposing Iain Duncan Smith’s record and making the case for an end to sanctions, discrimination, and poverty.

I will be fighting for a well-funded welfare state that supports the vulnerable and those in need, and treats people with dignity.

Labour is committed to ending universal credit, scrapping the five-week wait for initial payment, and replacing it with a social security system that guarantees a minimum standard of living.
