Why Faiza Shaheen?

We desperately need a new generation of political leaders. We cannot go on with the same people, doing the same things, and expect a different outcome.

What will I do for our community?

  • More than a decade of falling wages alongside recent inflation has meant that, no matter how hard you work, it’s a struggle to pay your bills and live a decent life. I will fight for workers’ rights and to address high utility bills, childcare and housing costs.

  • After multiple broken promises and delays on a new Whipps Cross, I will fight to ensure the work finally begins on a hospital fit for our growing community, and champion Labour’s plan for the biggest expansion of the NHS workforce in a generation.

  • No child has a say about the circumstances they are born into. I will fight for a properly- fundedstate education sector with opportunities for all regardless of background or family income, including extra-curricular activities such as music, and investment in special needs and mental health support so that our children flourish.

  • We’re so lucky to have the forest on our doorstep – it is part of what makes our community special. I will support all efforts to increase investment in greening our economy and boosting renewable energy, including through Labour’s plan for a publicly-owned green energy company and a Warm Homes Plan to bring down energy bills.

  • Having spent most of my childhood living on Chingford Mount, I know how long it takes to

get around our area during rush hour. We need more buses going to mainline stations in the mornings, and a longer-term plan to get a rail link to Stratford from Highams Park and a rail or tube link into south Chingford.

  • Too many of us have faced cars being stolen and homes being broken into. I back Labour’s plan to restore neighbourhood policing with 13,000 new police officers and PCSOs.

Times have been tough. The cost-of-living crisis is continuing to make life difficult, the NHS is struggling and our care system is underfunded. Those having to renegotiate mortgages or struggling with rent increases, we are victims of the Conservatives’ failed economic experiment. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Since 2021, I have been working with Governments around the world on policies to reduce inequality. This is why I know we can do better – I’ve seen it elsewhere. While we are told by the Conservatives that they’re doing a great job, the reality is we are being left behind.

Growing up, my family and I were able to use local resources, enjoy the support of good teachers, the welfare system, and cheap student loans to stay afloat and move forward. But the Government has been in power for 13 years and has used that time to pull up the ladders on families wanting to do the same.

I know your problems because I have experienced them myself, whether it’s the morning traffic deadlock on Chingford Mount or Woodford High Road, worrying about funding for your local school, not being able to find adequate mental health or social care support for a relative, struggling to find money to put in your pre-payment electricity meter, or worrying about how you’re going to keep your business afloat. It is because of this that I’m running – I know that my experience, skills and commitment can make a difference.

Faiza addressing local residents

Without a new generation of political leaders that understand the importance of public services, that fight for decent opportunities for all children regardless of their family background and who understand the change needed to halt the climate crisis, we are not going to be able to turn this country around and give the next generation the future they deserve.

No one person can solve our issues but the pandemic has taught us that our community, with all its talent and spirit, can make things better.

I will be a different type of politician, one that stands with you and brings us together. After 13 years of the Conservatives in charge, our country is at a crossroads. I hope you’ll join me to fight for a brighter future.
